The best-selling female artist of all time - whose seventeen #1 singles rival all but Elvis Presley and The Beatles - Mariah Carey has made an indelible impact on the global music industry and audiences everywhere. Blessed with a stunning five-octave range and signature vocal abilities, the singularly talented superstar continues to reach new heights of artistic growth and popularity. As a singer and songwriter, she has been recognized with five Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, Billboard's "Artist of the Decade" Award and the World Music Award for "World's Best Selling Female Artist of the Millennium," to name but a few honors.

Carey's most recent album is also her most intimate, a frank portrayal of both the challenges and successes experienced throughout her rise to fame. Released in April 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi (Island Def Jam) strongly resonated with audiences, becoming that year's best-selling album in the U.S. and selling more than eight million units worldwide to date. While capturing three Grammys for Best Contemporary R&B Album, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song, Carey broke milestones with the album's three singles. "We Belong Together" (which spent an astonishing fourteen weeks at #1) and "Shake It Off" made her the only female artist ever to occupy the Billboard Hot 100's #1 and #2 spots in the same week. Her subsequent stand-alone single "Don't Forget About Us" became the biggest American radio hit of the year.

With a mother who shared both talent and a love of music, Mariah Carey was named after "They Call the Wind Mariah," a song from the popular Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon. She began singing at the age of four, and her extraordinary and innate talent quickly progressed. As a young teenager she began honing her songwriting skills; upon high school graduation, Carey headed straight to New York to pursue a musical career. A luminous talent, her vocals were immediately in demand. Her major break came while singing backup for Brenda K. Starr, who gave her demo tape to then-Sony Music Entertainment Chief Tommy Mottola. Soon after, Mottola signed Carey to her first recording contract with Columbia Records.

With an angelic allure and a vocal intensity never heard before, Mariah Carey exploded upon the scene with the debut of her self-titled album in 1990. Mariah Carey was an immense hit, spawning an extraordinary four #1 singles: "Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry." It also brought two Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Vision of Love"). Carey continued her early success with a series of singles from her subsequent Emotions (1991) and MTV Unplugged (1992) albums that consistently placed her at the top of the charts.

With the 1993 release of Music Box, which included the chart-topping hit singles "Dreamlover" and "Hero," Mariah Carey produced her most commercially successful album to date, selling an astounding 30 million units. She hit a new milestone with a holiday album, Merry Christmas (1994), which contained the instant classic "All I Want for Christmas is You." The next year, with the release of Daydream (1995), its single "Fantasy" debuted at #1, making Mariah Carey the second artist in history and the first female performer to accomplish that feat. The album's other single, "One Sweet Day," recorded with Boyz II Men, stayed at the top of the charts for a mind-blowing sixteen weeks. She followed with the hip-hop and R&B-infused Butterfly, which introduced a new chapter in her career, teaming her with the hottest names in the music business including Sean Combs and Missy Elliott.

In 1998, eight years after her debut, Carey released #1's, a compilation of her chart-topping hits. The album also included a new song, "When You Believe" (from the film The Prince of Egypt), a duet with Whitney Houston that paired two of the most successful female recording artists in pop history. Rainbow followed in 1999 with startling success. With the album's first single, the popular "Heartbeaker," Carey became "the first artist to top the charts in each year of the 1990s; the record also pushed her ahead of The Beatles as the artist with the most cumulative weeks spent atop the Hot 100 singles chart," as affirmed by AllMusic.com. Mariah Carey subsequently sparked the interest of Universal Music Group's Island Def Jam Records, which signed her to an exclusive recording contract in May 2002. Later that year she made her label debut with the release of the multi-platinum Charmbracelet.

Evoking a nickname used by those closest to her, The Emancipation of Mimi marked Mariah Carey's tenth studio album with its release in April 2005. Entirely written and co-produced by Carey, and executive produced by Island Def Jam Music Group Chairman Antonio Reid, Mimi revealed an evolved musical sensibility in its tracks and a sophisticated new look on its cover. The album earned three Grammys from eight nominations across multiple categories, following a string of wins at the Vibe Awards, the American Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.

Apart from her musical achievements, Mariah Carey has generously donated her time and energy to a range of philanthropic causes near to her heart. They include Save the Music, The National Adoption Center and The Make-A-Wish Foundation, which recently bestowed its 2006 Wish Icon Award upon her, permanently rechristening it the Mariah Carey Wish Icon Award. Her active involvement with the Fresh Air Fund resulted in Camp Mariah, the Fund's first camp named in honor of an individual. Through this prism, Mariah Carey's legacy transcends the music industry to leave an indelible imprint upon the world at large.

If you're a lamb (Mimi fan), post your thoughts here ... discuss all about Mariah.

I beg to disagree, that's not true. Please check the veracity of your facts. The 'brown monkey' rumor issue was purportedly done by an unprofessional journalism in the side of the ABS-CBN. A certain pseudo Mariah-hater reported this fraudalent event in internet and tabloids, that cause dismay for some ignorant Filipinos (mostly in the futile minds of some reginians) believing that Mariah had prejudiced Asians. She (Mariah) is also a victim of biracial discrimination, and no hell she can tainted her own reputation/image/race.

Remember that in the tabloid, it was VJ Donita Rose interviewed Mariah and asks her what is her comment about Asia's songbird Regine V., and Mariah answered in a straightforward manner 'oh that brown monkey who can sing.' The interview didn't even occured, as it was stipulated and verified by donita herself in a BUZZ interview done by Boy Abunda in 2000.

The sad thing here is that even regine herself didn't check nor verify the credibility of the said rumor, when she was interviewed in Startalk, she just said 'buti nga kilala pa ako ni Mariah.' How ironic because Mariah doesn't even knew if regine exist or not. I was just appalled and shocked by regine's comment. Such stupidity and idiosyncrancy manifesting on some humans must not be tolerated.

I know that majority of Filipinos are not stupid to believe in rumors/falsehood/fraud reports. That's why when Mariah came here in Nov. 16, 2003 for a concert at The Fort, Taguig, it was a boombastic sold-out night, knowing that it wasn't even commercialized not until one week before the concert unlike Beyonce et al are very stringently commercialized in media... more than 30,000 Filipinos came to support, cheer and witness a once-in-a-lifetime show. After that, she went to Amanpulo, Palawan to relax and experienced Philippines' natural beauty and stayed for almost one week. She loved her Filipino fans and just to stress, if the report is real, why it wasn't even propagated in Asia or other continents, countries... only here in NCR and not in other Philippine regions.

Other reports on the matter:

Does Mariah hate Asians? As an Asian-American, when people find out that I'm a Mariah fan, they tell me that Mariah is racist against Asians. Is this just a rumor or did something happen in the past that I didn't know about the leads people to believe Mariah is prejudice to Asians?

As a multi-racial person, Mariah has received criticism and prejudice in her life for her own racial background, so it's absurd to think that she would be racist against any group of people. However, there is a reason some people believe Mariah is prejudice to Asians. In 2000, a certain tabloid published an article saying that Mariah called Asian singer Regine Valesquez "a brown monkey who can sing" in an interview she supposedly did with MTV personality Donita Rose. However, not only have Mariah's representatives denied these claims, but Donita herself expressed her disappointment over the whole ordeal. "I am saddened that I have been chosen to be implicated in this sorry affair," she told The Philippine Star. "The said article claims that international superstar Mariah Carey made a derogatory remark when asked to comment on our own Regine Velasquez during an interview I supposedly conducted for MTV Asia. This alleged interview never took place except in the fertile minds of people who have not bothered to check their facts and made me an unwitting party to a distressing situation," she explained. "Not having been present during the said 'interview', I have no comments to make on what was or was not said by Ms. Carey," stressed Donita. So in conclusion, Mariah absolutely does not hate the Asian race. In fact, she's quite intrigued by them and loves touring Asia and part-taking in its culture!

Mariah Carey, Donita Rose, Brown Monkey...

This was not so much a malicious hoax as it was the product of much-exaggerated tabloid reportage. Mariah Carey didn't say or do any of this. Don't believe it, don't forward it.

Dear Fellow Filipinos,

It is truly unfortunate that MARIAH CAREY is Racist against us. In one of her concerts she asked her audience if there were any Filipinos among them.

A jubilant section of the crowd cheered because these Filipinos thought they were being acknowledged, the ice cold Mariah said in a wicked voice and shout "GET OUT". This made the Filipinos loose face.

Another incident happened on an MTV Asia interview in which Mariah was interviewed by Donita Rose. Mariah was asked for a commentary about Asia's Songbird and the Pride of the Pride of the Filipino people, Regine Velasquez. And she hissed at Donita by saying our beloved Regine, is "a brown monkey who can sing." I personally found her comments very insulting since I am a Filipina myself. I hope everyone who reads this spreads the word and boycotts her albums. If you want proof of these allegations go to abs-cbnnews.com and click on celebrities.

Please pass this message to all your FILIPINO friends.

The story was actually published on ABS-CBNnews.com. But after some time, the article turned out to be the product of unprofessional journalism on the part of the ABS-CBN celebrity reporter. Alleged sources of the misinformation vary, usually pointing to an unidentified tabloid with references to elements in the local PR industry.

ABS-CBNnews.com has since then put out an article which, though not exactly apologetic, debunks the rumors and sets the record straight.

Donita Rose's disclaimer in the Philippine Star says that she never had such an interview with Mariah Carey. "The said article claims that international superstar Mariah Carey made a derogatory remark when asked to comment on our own Regine Velasquez during an interview I supposedly conducted for MTV Asia. This alleged interview never took place except in the fertile minds of people who have not bothered to check their facts and made me an unwitting party to a distressing situation."

It's important to ask when you receive this kind of message: would a professional, world-famous artist like Mariah Carey deliberately self-destruct her career by being so blatantly racist? If she did, wouldn't such an act make headlines in entertainment news around the world?

Mariah Carey herself is heir to a mixed racial heritage, with an African-American father. It's unlikely that someone who has grown up with this knowledge, fully aware of the prejudice that accompanies such a background, would herself become prejudiced against other racial groups.

I also advise some discreet caution when reading ABS-CBNnews.com's entertainment section. This isn't the first -- or last -- time it's happened. Come to think of it, I'd advise that for any "showbiz tsismis"-type feature.

NEW ALBUM IN STORES APRIL 15th - FOLLOWS-UP WORLDWIDE 10 MILLION-
SELLING, MULTI-GRAMMY WINNING THE EMANCIPATION OF MIMI.

"Touch My Body" - first single hits radio February 12th, written and
produced by Mariah Carey, C. "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream- video
directed by Brett Ratner, premiere to be announced.

Performer and songwriter Mariah Carey has set April 15th as the in-
store date for the most eagerly anticipated album of the year, E=MC².
The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC² is the follow-up to The
Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah's worldwide 10 million selling #1 album,
which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B
Album), 2 #1 singles and countless more industry honors during its 18-
month stay on the charts.

The first single from E=MC² is "Touch My Body," written and produced
by Mariah Carey, C. "Tricky" Stewart, and The-Dream, and blasting out
worldwide on February 12th. The video for "Touch My Body" was
directed by feature filmmaker Brett Ratner - internet, cable and
network premieres for the video will be announced in the weeks ahead.
In addition to C. "Tricky" Stewart and The-Dream, other guest
producers joining Mariah on E=MC² will include Jermaine Dupri, DJ
Toomp, Stargate, Will I Am, Bryan Michael Cox, Nate "Danjahandz"
Hills and James Poyser. E=MC² is executive produced by Mariah Carey
and Antonio "LA" Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

The Emancipation Of Mimi, released April 12, 2005, was an industry
phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar -
Soundscan's biggest-selling album of the year, bringing total sales
of Mariah's albums, singles and videos to more than 160 million
worldwide, making her the most successful female recording artist in
history. Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist
in the 48 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the
potential to surpass the Beatles' all-time high of 20 #1 hits.

MARIAH CAREY
"Touch My Body"
(Island/IDJMG)

How does an artist follow-up one of their biggest selling albums that
included two number one singles when most had written the artist off
as a causality of being relevant or not? If you're Mariah Carey, you
keep it simple, and that's one thing MC has done with her debut
single from her forthcoming album, E=MC². "Touch My Body" (co-written
and produced with Tricky Stewart and The-Dream) is the perfect lead
track to re-ignite her most passionate fan base, who've kept her
relevant through good times and bad... times are pretty good for
Mariah nowadays! This mid-tempo track is pure fun, sounding at times
reminiscent of another Carey gem, "Always Be My Baby," but yet
different enough to sound like something totally fresh and new.
Mariah's vocal range is also kept in check and fits the song to
perfection. The hypnotic "Touch My Body... My Body" hook is sure to
stick after one-listen. While the thought of Mariah Carey exceeding
expectations remains a question, simply because the bar she's set is
so high, matching them is a good way to start. This "body" of work
sounds like a hit! BET ON IT!

"Touch My Body" Reviews
Erik Bradley
Music Director, B-96, Chicago, IL

"'Touch My Body' picks right up where The Emancipation Of Mimi left
off. It's another classic Mariah mid-tempo SMASH with a hook that
will stick with you for days. The reaction to it thus far has been
incredible...I believe at the end of the day this will be Mariah's
18th #1 single. I've heard many of the songs on E=MC2 and not only is
it full of killer songs, I feel it stands just as tall (perhaps
taller) than T.E.O.M. Here comes another 10+ million worldwide sales
and more time at the top of the charts for MC!"

Staff Writer, Los Angeles Times

The Mariah formula: First listen on 'Touch My Body'
Pop star Mariah Carey unveiled today her new single and the science-
friendly title of her new album, "E=MC2," due April 15. The title
alone already does Janet Jackson one better. The latter went all sci-
fi with her latest video, "Feedback," but Mariah is cutting out the B-
movie trappings and going straight to the equation.

So is Mariah unveiling her inner Albert Einstein with the title? Or
is she leaking the formula that goes into crafting a mega-hit?

E = extreme, acrobatic-like wailing.

M = multimillion-dollar production team. (Billboard.com writes that
the A-list lineup cooking with Mariah in the M lab includes Jermaine
Dupri, will.i.am, Stargate and Bryan Michael Cox, among others.)

C2 = Club songs multiplied by colossal ballads.

All right, so the title is certainly a not-so-subtle nod to her top-
selling 2005 album, "The Emancipation of Mimi." The first
single, "Touch My Body," hit radio today. It was produced by
C "Tricky" Stewart and The Dream, the pair who worked on Rihanna's
Grammy-winning "Umbrella."

So how is it? "Touch My Body" rides a relatively restrained slow-
dance groove, with some light, orchestral-synth flourishes thrown in.
The rhythm is almost completely carried by an effortless keyboard
bump, the easygoing repetitiveness of which eventually wears the
listener down, and sets up a delicate frame for Carey to sing around.

She pulls back when the song picks up the pace, and Carey keeps it
simple here, playing with tempos rather than range. Indeed, she
almost quietly slides into the chorus. "If you run around and brag
about this secret rendezvous, I will hunt you down," she sings,
letting the last line trail off. But you don't necessarily believe
her, as the feel is more playful that sinful.

The song will be getting the full blockbuster treatment, as "Rush
Hour" director Brett Ratner shot the video for the cut.

Blender

Mariah's New Sex Tape-Themed Smash
WHO: Mariah Carey
WHAT: "Touch My Body"
WHY: While Mariah's new album, E=MC2, is set to be one of the year's
biggest, this introductory single is downright subtle - yet
effective. Co-written by The-Dream and produced by Tricky (a.k.a. the
dudes behind "Umbrella"), "Touch My Body" rides the same never ending
snap blueprint T-Pain used to brilliant effect on last year's feather-
light super hit "Buy U A Drank (Shawty Snappin')." You won't mind
hearing it on the radio and TV every 10 minutes for the next few
months - this thing sooths as it repeats. Here, Mariah is focused on
one thing: "Come on and give me what I deserve and touch my body,"
she coos. And make no mistake, she wants to be touched on her terms
only: "Cause if you run your mouth and brag about this secret
rendezvous, I will hunt you down." She even thinks about the possible
ramifications of her touchy tryst when she sings, "If there's a
camera up in here then I best not catch this flick on YouTube"
(nevermind the fact that the video in question would never get past
YouTube censors). A pop genius making genius pop.

TOUCH MY BODY lyrics
(written by Mariah Carey - C. Tricky Stewart - Terius "The-Dream"
Nash)

MC, you're the place to be
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah

I know that you've been waiting for it
I'm waiting too
In my imagination I'd be all up on you
I know you got that fever for me
Hundred and two
And boy I know I feel the same
My temperature's through the roof

If there's a camera up in here
Then it's gonna leave with me
When I do (I do)
If there's a camera up in here
Then I'd best not catch this flick
On YouTube (YouTube)
'Cause if you run your mouth and brag
About this secret rendezvous
I will hunt you down
'Cause baby I'm up in my bidness
Like a Wendy interview
But this is private
Between you and I

Touch my body
Put me on the floor
Wrestle me around
Play with me some more
Touch my body
Throw me on the bed
I just wanna make you feel
Like you never did.
Touch my body
Let me wrap my thighs
All around your waist
Just a little taste
Touch my body
Know you love my curves
Come on and give me what I deserve
And touch my body.

Boy you can put me on you
Like a brand new white tee
I'll hug your body tighter
Than my favorite jeans
I want you to caress me
Like a tropical breeze
And float away with you
In the Caribbean Sea

If there's a camera up in here
Then it's gonna leave with me
When I do (I do)
If there's a camera up in here
Then I'd best not catch this flick
On YouTube (YouTube)
'Cause if you run your mouth and brag
About this secret rendezvous
I will hunt you down
'Cause baby I'm up in my bidness
Like a Wendy interview
But this is private
Between you and I

Touch my body
Put me on the floor
Wrestle me around
Play with me some more
Touch my body
Throw me on the bed
I just wanna make you feel
Like you never did.
Touch my body
Let me wrap my thighs
All around your waist
Just a little taste
Touch my body
Know you love my curves
Come on and give me what I deserve
And touch my body.

Imma treat you like a teddy bear
You won't wanna go nowhere
In the lap of luxury
Baby just turn to me
You won't want for nothing boy
I will give you plenty
Touch my body

Touch my body
Put me on the floor
Wrestle me around
Play with me some more
Touch my body
Throw me on the bed
I just wanna make you feel
Like you never did.
Touch my body
Let me wrap my thighs
All around your waist
Just a little taste
Touch my body
Know you love my curves
Come on and give me what I deserve
And touch my body.

Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah
Oh yeah oh yeah
Oh oh oh oh yeah
Touch my body...
