Six members of the 38th Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were wounded when unknown armed men ambushed them last night around 11:30, September 10, in Kayaga, Kabacan, North Cotabato, a report reaching Luwaran today. The ambush site is practically in the center of the town, where newly built commercial buildings were constructed by former Mayor Luz Tan.
The Armymen were insisting they were ambushed.
Four of the wounded are now admitted to the Kabacan Medical Center for medication.
However, a Luwaran correspondent checked the incident early today and reported that according to eyewitness the incident was not an ambush but Armymen’s own hand grenade exploded in their midst due to too much intoxication.
The 6x6 military vehicle they used is still stuck up in a rice field near the site of the incident.
In another report, six firearms including four M-14 rifles, were reported missing at a detachment of Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) in lagidlagid, Kibayao, Carmen, North Cotabato.
The CAFGUs were affiliated with the Army’s 38th Infantry Battalion of the Army’s 602nd Brigade based in Carmen, North Cotabato.
The CAFGU guard on duty was detained pending recovery or termination of the investigation of the incident.
A source told Luwaran that the initial findings stated that an inside job theory is being looked at first by investigators.
The firearms were listed as missing since August 1, 2007.
