“No revolutionary group in their correct principled-based struggle would accept amnesty from their nemesis or the government. The government must be joking or has never learned its lessons from decades of fighting the communist rebels. ”This was the comment of Khaled Musa, deputy chairman f the MILF Committee on Information, on the amnesty proclamation by the Arroyo administration for communist rebels fighting the government, even as earlier that this offer has been contemplated also to include the MILF.
Apparently, the government dropped the inclusion of the MILF in the amnesty coverage after it denounced the idea and described it as a breach of the principles underlying the GRP-MILF peace process.
Musa described the National Democratic Front and its military arm, the New People’s Army, as truly revolutionary organizations that will never yield to such unprincipled approach of the government.
He said that the government better bring up the issue of the peace process as a better alternative move, which the NDF cannot reject without having to explain the reasons for not agreeing.
However, he admitted that approach like this can attract the pseudo-revolutionary elements in any revolutionary organization, adding also that the government may organize fake communist rebels to avail of this offer and surrender in order to bolster their propaganda that the NDF/NPA is cracking up.
The amnesty proclamation, which the President signed before flying to Sydney for the 15th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Meeting, came after Speaker de Venecia proposed an all-encompassing amnesty program to further enhance prospects for national reconciliation and unity.
Meanwhile, Rep. Prospero Nograles of Davao City expressed high hopes that the President’s amnesty proclamation for communist rebels would encourage the communist rebels to give up their armed struggle and finally support the government.
“I hope the amnesty will all together end communist activities in the countryside especially their illegal taxation on businesses in the areas and extortion and bombing bus companies especially in Mindanao. I hope also the NPA will give up their armed struggle and join the mainstream of the citizenry and support the government,” Nograles was quoted by newsmen as saying.
