At least three people were injured in two separate bomb blasts Sunday afternoon in Iligan City.
An
initial report from ABS-CBN Iligan said the first blast took place at
5:45 p.m. at a motel in the city. An unidentified motel employee was
injured in the attack.
Thirty minutes after the first incident, another bomb went off, this time at the Travelers' Inn. A four-year-old boy was hurt.
Police also said that an unidentified man, who they believed planted the bomb, was also injured.
Bomb
experts, meanwhile, were sent to a guard the Casa Royal hotel, also in
the city, after reports that an improvised explosive device (IED), has
been discovered there.
Officials said that initial evidence gathered point to IEDs as the ones used in the motel and Travelers' Inn blasts.
Authorities
are now investigating leads to determine if the Moro Islamic Liberation
Front was responsible in the bombings or if the incidents were related
to the recent Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao elections.
Iligan has been a hotbed of protests against the proposed Bangsamoro Juridical Entity that would create an expanded ARMM.
The
MILF has been accusing Mayor Lawrence Cruz of paying citizens to speak
out agains the BJE, a charge that the public official denied.
Last
week, experts defused a bomb planted near a school in North Cotabato,
just days after the end of brutal clashes between Muslim rebels and
government forces in the area.
The homemade bomb was found near a government school in M'lang town, a military statement said, without giving further details.
On
Friday night, an IED was also detonated by Army bomb experts near the
residence of the mayor of M'lang Friday night. The IED was the second
to be found in the town within the day and the third since Thursday.
A
live grenade was also found near a cinema inside a Zamboanga City mall
the same day.The city's bomb squad reported that a janitor discovered
the grenade with its safety pin intact inside the Mindpro Citimall. The
initial report said that the janitor was cleaning the vicinity of the
mall's Cinema 5 when he saw the grenade lodged in a corner. With Roxanne Arevalo
