Marawi City , Philippines : Muslim Filipinos celebrated Eid al-Adha in Marawi City yesterday December 19,2007 .

In Marawi City , the biggest Jamah who performed Eid prayer, managed by the King Faisal Center for Islamic and Arabic Studies, Mindanao State University , was held in the University Oval ground. Professor Abducal Alonto, KFCIAS Officer in-Charge, expressed his thanks and gratitude to Allah s.w.t for the cooperation of the officials, faculty, staff and students of the University. Dr. Abdusalam Disomimba, an alumnus from the International Islamic University of Malaysia and new faculty of the Center,   led the Eid prayer and subsequently delivered the Kutbah.

Ustadj Abu Amar, member of the Tarompong sa Ranao Radio Forum, explains that “Muslim Filipinos in general usually follow Saudi Arabia in celebrating  Eid al-Adha.” The celebration  is in accord with the official decision and announcement of the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia. It says: “since the moon of Dhul-Hijjah was sighted Sunday, December 9, 2007 evening here in Saudi Arabia , we shall be completing twenty nine (29) days of Dhul-Qi'dah, inshaa'Allaah.”

The announcement states: “1 Dhul-Hijjah will be Monday, 10 December 2007 , and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in 'Arafah on Tuesday, December 18 (9 Dhul-Hijjah 1428), and the Muslim Ummah shall be celebrating 'Eid al-Adhaa on Wednesday, December 19, (10 Dhul-Hijjah 1428), inshaa'Allaah.”

But commentary from the Moonsighting.com revealed: “The moon was not even born on Sunday, December 9, Maghrib time in Saudi Arabia , and moon actually set 23 minutes before sun set at Makkah.”

According to the research conducted by Moonsighting.com the Universal date for Eid-al-Adha is on December 20, 2007 (Thursday) because actual authentic sighting was confirmed from Mauritius , Tanzania , South Africa , and Barbados on Monday, December 10, 2007 .

Get ready to see the Muharram crescent moon on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 to prove that sighting on January 8, is not possible (except few Polynesian Islands). We know the moon can be seen in many continents on Wed., January 9, 2008, Moonsighting Committee Worldwide said.
