THE military is determined to arrest rouge Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leader Haber Malik in whatever way they can, an official said.

Malik managed to escape at the height of an intense fighting early Friday in Barangay Kambing in the town of Kalingalang Caluang, Sulu.

Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer Major Eugenio Batara, Jr. said Malik and his followers have warrants of arrest issued by the court.

The issuance of the warrants of arrest stemmed from the attack on a military camp by Malik and his men on April of this year in the town of Panamao, Sulu.

Last Friday, 15 rouge MNLF members were killed while 20 others were wounded including Malik and three others of his lieutenants.

Two of the 15 slain rouge MNLF members were bodyguards of Malik.

The troops managed to recover four remains of the 15 slain enemies and two high-powered firearms and several rounds of ammunitions.

The government troops suffered five dead and eight wounded in the firefight.

The wounded and slain marines were airlifted to the city.

Batara said the offensive is only against Malik and his group, and not the MNLF as an organization.

The MNLF has forged a peace accord with the government on September 2, 1996.
