Some Politicians in the Philippines Buy their Way to Power PDF Print E-mail

Barangay and Sanggunayang Kabataan synchronized elections in the Philippines is definitely scheduled on October 29,2007.  Most candidates who are politicians are ready to take the leadership by all means.

Electoral process in the Philippines actually entails time, money and supporters.  This situation develops certain attitude among the people in selecting their leaders.  For example, some do not vote unless they are given gifts, bonuses and money; others are no longer interested to cast their votes for they know that candidates who resort to bribery and coercion can obtain more votes and may be subsequently elected to office.  Until finally, the electoral process lost its value to most people.

In other words, elections have been ridden with violence and massive frauds.      Some politicians used to bargain, persuade, coerce, bribe, buy and manipulate votes. led to conflicts, disputes, and killings in their respective  areas.

More chances are always given to those candidates  who have means and resources. Who are these people? Some believe that they are mostly traditional politicians or a new politicians who used to adopt the political strategies of the former. They wish to wield  power by occupying key positions in the government using their  means and resources to buy their way to power.

Thus, politicians from any sector of a society can hardly  win in an election if they are poor and do not have the resources. This is quite true because political  ever-spending during poll campaign has become a norm in the electoral process and laws are not enough to check it.

This observation shows the importance of money and other resources for politicians buying their way to power.  The new breed of honest politicians, who are not rich and members of the middle class encounter difficulties in assuming leadership in the political scene.

The continuity of this problem in the election has triggered numerous problems causing the county’s stagnation.  For instance, for the period of more than 50 years in Lanao Sur and Marawi City, the people’s need for socio-economic and political development have not been realized.  This situation has greatly motivated concerned people to actively participate in the electoral process.

Therefore, it is about time for concerned and honest leaders and intellectuals to make electoral reforms because if politicians buy their way to power, they are expected to recover their expenses through graft.

and that ranaw must know.
That reality are very clear to us here in Ranaw. after the election, some of us claiming on development programs and even making violent action TO those Elected Officials. What they don't realize is NATAPOS PALA NILA ANG DAPAT IBIGAY SA BAYAN NATIN. Don't they realize that the sallary of Brgy chairmans or even mayors are very low.

saan kukunin ng mga nanalong candidate s ang nagastos nilang pera kundi sa era or projects.

Hwag sabihin ng isang official d2 sa ranaw na hindi sya involve sa Corruption. KAPAMRAK. some candidates running are running just for power and corrupt money that are for our own good and for our community.

we are known as intelligent compare to other nation pero hindi natin yon napapatunayan.

ALLAH hates what we are doing. All of us knows that. We know bad from right and right from bad.

this Barangay Election is much critical
I think the appropriate title of the article should be Most Politicians in the Philippines Buy their Way to Power. The latest Garci scandal and the Bedol electoral controversy which are hounding GMA until now are glaring examples on how to be in power!
In the Filipino Muslim setting, the culture of electoral fraud reared its ugly head in the last election especially in the Meranao areas. No doubt, the Comelec registrars together with the Provincial Comelec Supervisor and the Regional Director, are the new installers of who should occupy an elected position. The highest bidder always got elected.Take the case of the provincial board case, comelec registrars did not always touch the total votes garnered by the candidates, but the modus operandi, was who ever gave an average of 250T per municipality to increase his /her vote will top the final tally in the Provincial Canvass. If you gave lesser, say at 100T per municipality, like what a reelectionist candidate from Marawi did,you got an additional vote maybe proportionate to what you gave. So ultimately, the highest bidder got elected. In the case of the city, everybody knew what happened at the MSU area during the election. Many unknown personalities got elected to the council and those who spent, reelectionists, and who came from big time families lost!
So it is not only money that can bring you to power but through fraud.
Thus, this has become a part of our political culture... buying votes , fraud, and use of force, in order to win! Upon getting into power, the tendency is for those who got elected "reimburse" their investment in the election plus how to get richer in office. Thus, naging negosyo ang meranao politics ! Power breeds corruption. Subsequently, money lost to corruption makes the poor suffer more. Clearly, IRA and other government funds intended for the peoples welfare are just being pocketed by these people.
Political dynasty, even it is banned by the Constitution which cannot be implemented in the absence of an enabling law, share of the economic wealth they appropriated. So indeed, corruption helps their power and the more the poor becomes more marginalized!
The Barangay and SK elections will be held next week. Who ever has the money, whoever knows how to use fraud, and whoever knows how to use force, marani ron so kapakataban! We will just pray that the election will be peaceful.

this Barangay Election is much critical
On October 29,2007,we are sure that majority of our candidates for the barangay elections will buy their way to power.
Local elections were always marred of electoral fraud and the use of guns, goons, and gold. The coming Barangay and SK elections is predicted to be very dangerous especially that in most barrios, close relatives like father and son, brother against brother, cousin against cousins, etc will be running against its other. Immediately, after the elections families and clans tend to be divided and a damaging blow to our meranao unity!
Vote buying, and selling,, force, padding the list of voters, disenfranchisement of voters, tampering of official results will be very common in this coming elections. Our incumbent barangay and sk leaders have been in office more than three years as Congress had kept on postponing the election. Thus, the more the incumbents who are running for election want to stay in power.
Today, even narco-politicians are now funding several barangay candidates with the end in view of looking ahead at the 2010 national and local elections. Even rebels, criminals, local warlords, and government officials are having their say in the elections! But ultimately, those who have the gold get elected!
Let us pray that the elections be peaceful!

pagNaw ka raNaw!
the main root of this is ..poVERTY,the filipino people are poor particularly in Lanao, the people will vote for those who have moNEY or "guLa" without knowing that this politicians will corrupt after they won..that's the big mistakes of the Filipinos specifically those who are selling their votes.

Birds
One great thing with being a bird is that you can fly high enjoy the freedom of being wild and free while soaring with other birds who also take to the air and enjoy with all your might. Then you look down and you notice you get a wider perspective of the entire landscape. If you've got the eyes of an eagle you at times make very accurate and objective survey of the landscape below. And this is why I am not surprised to find traces of two birds here I've been following to listen to their latest surveys of the landscape of Morolandia, particularly Lanao del Sur, from the Chatter box of the RC.com to their comments in the articles there and here. These are the Benaning a Papanok and Sumasagad a Papas. I just follow on foot kaya huli palagi. He he he. But am telling the truth, folks. They are rare birds.
