WASHINGTON – His name etched in history as America's first black president, Barack Obama turned from the jubilation of victory to the sobering challenge of leading a nation worried about economic crisis, two unfinished wars and global uncertainty.
"The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep," Obama cautioned.
Young and charismatic but with little experience on the national level, Obama smashed through racial barriers and easily defeated Republican John McCain to become the first African-American destined to sit in the Oval Office, America's 44th president. He was the first Democrat to receive more than 50 percent of the popular vote since Jimmy Carter in 1976.
"It's been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this date in this election at this defining moment, change has come to America," Obama told a victory rally of 125,000 people jammed into Chicago's Grant Park.
Obama scored an Electoral College landslide that redrew America's political map. He won states that reliably voted Republican in presidential elections, like Indiana and Virginia, which hadn't supported the Democratic candidate in 44 years. Ohio and Florida, key to Bush's twin victories, also went for Obama, as did Pennsylvania, which McCain had deemed crucial for his election hopes.
With just 76 days until the inauguration, Obama is expected to move quickly to begin assembling a White House staff and selecting Cabinet nominees.
Campaign officials said Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel was the front-runner to be Obama's chief of staff. The advisers spoke on a condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made.
Democrats expanded their majority in both houses of Congress. In the Senate, Democrats ousted Republicans Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina and John Sununu of New Hampshire and captured seats held by retiring GOP senators in Virginia, New Mexico and Colorado. Still, the GOP blocked a complete rout, holding the Kentucky seat of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and a Mississippi seat once held by Trent Lott — two top Democratic targets.
In the House, with fewer than a dozen races still undecided, Democrats captured Republican-held seats in the Northeast, South and West and were on a path to pick up as many as 20 seats.
When Obama and running mate Joe Biden take their oath of office on Jan. 20, Democrats will control both the White House and Congress for the first time since 1994.
"It is not a mandate for a party or ideology but a mandate for change," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California said: "Tonight the American people have called for a new direction. They have called for change in America."
After the longest and costliest campaign in U.S. history, Obama was propelled to victory by voters dismayed by eight years of George W. Bush's presidency and deeply anxious about rising unemployment and home foreclosures and a battered stock market that has erased trillions of dollars of savings for Americans.
Six in 10 voters picked the economy as the most important issue facing the nation in an Associated Press exit poll. None of the other top issues — energy, Iraq, terrorism and health care — was selected by more than one in 10. Obama has promised to cut taxes for most Americans, get the United States out of Iraq and expand health care, including mandatory coverage for children.
Obama acknowledged that repairing the economy and dealing with problems at home and overseas will not happen quickly. "We may not get there in one year or even in one term," he said. "But, America, I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you, we as a people will get there."
McCain conceded defeat shortly after 11 p.m. EST, telling supporters outside the Arizona Biltmore Hotel, "The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly."
"This is an historic election, and I recognize the special significance it has for African-Americans and the special pride that must be theirs tonight," McCain said. "These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face."
Obama faces a staggering list of problems, and he mentioned some of them in his victory speech. "Even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime — two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century." He spoke of parents who worry about paying their mortgages and medical bills.
"There will be setbacks and false starts," Obama said. "There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president. And we know the government can't solve every problem."
The son of a Kenyan father and a white mother from Kansas, the 47-year-old Obama has had a startlingly rapid rise, from lawyer and community organizer to state legislator and U.S. senator, now just four years into his first term. He is the first senator elected to the White House since John F. Kennedy in 1960.
Bush called Obama with congratulations at 11:12 p.m. EST. "I promise to make this a smooth transition," the president said. "You are about to go on one of the great journeys of life. Congratulations and go enjoy yourself." He invited Obama and his family to visit the White House soon.
Bush planned to make a statement about the election at midmorning Wednesday in the Rose Garden.
With most U.S. precincts tallied, the popular vote was 51.9 percent for Obama and 46.8 percent for McCain. But the count in the Electoral College was lopsided in Obama's favor over McCain — 349 to 147 as of early Wednesday, with three states still to be decided. Those were North Carolina, Georgia and Missouri.
Obama won California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.
McCain had Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia and Wyoming. He also won at least 3 of Nebraska's five electoral votes, with the other two in doubt.
Almost six in 10 women supported Obama nationwide, while men leaned his way by a narrow margin, according to interviews with voters. Just over half of whites supported McCain, giving him a slim advantage in a group that Bush carried overwhelmingly in 2004.
The results of the AP survey were based on a preliminary partial sample of nearly 10,000 voters in Election Day polls and in telephone interviews over the past week for early voters.
In terms of turnout, America voted in record numbers. It looks like 136.6 million Americans will have voted for president this election, based on 88 percent of the country's precincts tallied and projections for absentee ballots, said Michael McDonald of George Mason University. Using his methods, that would give 2008 a 64.1 percent turnout rate.
"That would be the highest turnout rate that we've seen since 1908," which was 65.7 percent, McDonald said early Wednesday.

One of the ILAGA/NJM leaders said that this attack is just a beginning of our planned series of attacks against Muslims. This is a retaliation of the MILF onslaught against Christian towns. He said that the ILAGA/NJM is just obeying the order of Secretary Puno to commence an attack against Muslims and the ILAGA/NJM thanked the Secretary for giving them weapons. Meanwhile, one of the victims said that the arms used by the ILAGA/NJM in firing them are the same arms distributed by DILG Secretary Puno to the ILAGA/NJM when he visited the town of Kolambugan two months ago.
The group of Commander Pusa, an extremist organization vow to revenge. They said that those who are responsible for these killings will certainly suffer the consequence of their inhuman acts. They will attack ILAGA forces wherever they are hiding and they are determine to annihilate them. They said that it was Secretary Puno who orchestrated the attack against Muslims. Puno has blood in his hands. The PNP-AFP should arrest him because he is behind in this incident or if he flees, the government should give reward for his arrest. Government official must not use his position for his barbaric acts.

BEWARE EVERYONE!!!
During a recent raid on a wholesale centre in Guangzhou city, the capital of China 's Guangdong province, a large quantity of fake eggs was seized.
Their wholesale price is 0.15 yuan (S$0.03) each - half the price of a real egg.
Consumers have a hard time telling a genuine egg from a fake one. This is good news for unscrupulous entrepreneurs, who are even conducting three-day courses in the production of artificial eggs for less than
S$150.
A reporter with Hong Kong-based Chinese magazine East Week enrolled in one such course.
To create egg white, the instructor - a woman in her 20s - used assorted ingredients such as gelatin, an unknown powder, benzoic acid, coagulating material and even alum, which is normally used for industrial processes.
For egg yolk, some lemon-yellow colouring powder is mixed to a liquid and the concoction stirred. The liquid is then poured into a round-shaped plastic mould and mixed with so-called 'magic water', which contains calcium chloride. This gives the 'yolk' a thin outer membrane, firming it up. The egg is then shaped with a mould. The shell is not forgotten. Paraffin wax and an unidentified white liquid are poured onto the fake egg, which is then left to dry.
The artificial egg can be fried sunny-side up or steamed. Although bubbles appear on the white of the egg, those who have tasted it say the fake stuff tastes very much like the real thing.
But experts warn of the danger of eating fake eggs. Not only do they not contain any nutrients, a Hong Kong Chinese University professor warned that long term consumption of alum could cause dementia.
To make the egg white, various ingredients, including a powder and alum, are mixed together.
The 'yolk' is shaped in the round mould. 'Magic water' containing calcium chloride is used.
Hardy shells are formed by pouring paraffin wax and a liquid onto the egg, which are then left to dry.
Hope this information contributes in some small way to your safety.
The world is increasingly becoming a dangerous place to live in.
Strive to be safe. Take care.

Marawi City, Philippines—Moon sighting 1429 and the Eid al-Fitr was celebrated yesterday Tuesday, September 30,2008 in various masajid or mosques in Marawi City.
The Ulama League of the Philippines headed by Aleem Ömar Pasigan concurred by the majority of the Ulama headed by Abu Ali Qadi in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur declared yesterday Tuesday, September 30, 2008, the first day of Sawwal, the celebration of Eid al-Fitr in Marawi City, Philippines. . The declaration was based on the claim that the moon was sighted in Cotabato¸ Zamboanga¸ Jolo and other places in Mindanao on September 29, 2008. However, Sultan a Cabugatan with the call sign of compound base said that moon was sigted in Dalipga, Lumbatan, Lanao del Sur more than seven minutes befor sunset
In Iligan City, Madrigal M. Macadato (MCW member from Iligan City) reported that moon was seen. He said “several new moon sighting here in Mindanao, Philippines. The sightings that were reported happened before sunset (Sept 29, 2008) in the following areas in Mindanao: 1. Cotabato City 2. Iligan City 3. Sultan Naga Dimaporo Municipality of the province of Lanao del Norte.
The sighting was confirmed by no less than the MUFTI of the MILF (Moro Islamic Leberation Front), Aleem OMAR PASIGAN. In Sultan Naga Dimaporo the sighting was confirmed and verified by Aleen Kamarodin Sarip.”
But, Jalil Rayhan based in Cotabato reported and explained the Mistaken Sighting of the moon in the Philippines. He said “the announcement (Sept 29) came at 9:30 pm that the crescent was sighted in Zamboanga peninsula in the Philippines. Upon inquiry, the adil brothers in Zamboanga City reported of no sighting of hilal there, instead the basis of Eid (Sept 30) announcement was the report of the mufti (Ustadz Abdul Baqi) online from Saudi Arabia. This explains the time of announcement. Cotabato area from 5pm until pass 7pm on Sept 29 was having a heavy rain. We did not even have a clear sky after the rain by the fact that you cannot see any star. The new trend in the Philippines is that the Local Darul Ifta announces a sighting but would not provide names of the sighters. How can we vouch the integrity of the sighter/reporte.”
Mr. Rayhan, however, failed to mentioned who are these adil brothers and the group with authority declaring the Eid basis in the Philippines following Saudi Arabia.
Moonsighting Worldwide Committee gave its comments that “this is reported here for information, so the people can see what is happening in Philippines. The moon was less than 2 hours old in Philippines and it set before sunset. So the moon was not even above their horizon, so how can anyone see a moon that is not there.”
The Committee earlier explains that “the Astronomical New Moon is on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 8:12 GMT, 4:12 am EDT, 1:12 am PDT). It will not be visible on September 29 except small possibility in Ploynesian Islands. On Tuesday, September 30, it will be visible in New Zealand Australia, Indonesia, South Asia, Africa and Americas. In North America on September 30, it can be seen in Southern belt states. So, Eidul-Fitr is expected on Wednesday, October 1, most of the world, Insha-Allah. Also, according to the criteria adopted by Fiqh Council of North America, and European Council for Fatwa and Research, the first day of Shawwal is on Wednesday, October 1, 2008, which would be after completing 30 days of Ramadan.”
Hence, the Committee, upon the reports of its members, reported the OFFICIAL 1st Day of Shawwal in Different Countries as presented below:

KORONADAL CITY -- Hackers have defaced the website of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (www.luwaran.com), the group's chief negotiator said Thursday.
Mohagher Iqbal, MILF chief negotiator, admitted this to the Philippine Daily Inquirer by phone but refused to speculate on the military's involvement.
"If you open our website, you can see that all posted were previous materials. We were hacked and we are fixing it now. Anytime it will run again," Iqbal said.
The military has accused the MILF of publishing polluted information on its website as part of the rebel group's alleged propaganda in the wake of ongoing fighting in Mindanao.
Server systems, particularly those using open source Linux and other Unix-based operating system, are prone to hacking.
In July last year, the website of Davao-based independent news organization, Mindananews (www.mindanews.com), was also hacked

Attached herewith the Manifesto and some pictures of the Rally yesterday (October 02, 2008, Shawwal 02, 1429) asking the U.N. and O.I.C. to Mediate and intervene in the Muslim Mindanao long-aged conflict. The rally was started in the Plaza Bangolo of Islamic City of Marawi (Philippines) and at around 10 o’clock in the morning, at the height of hot-sunny-day, the rallysts walked and completed the said rally at the 103rd Brigade of the Philippine Armed Forces at Kampo Ranaw, Marawi City.
The Rally was organized by the Multi-Sectoral Civil populace of Lanao del Sur.
MANIFESTO
CALLING ON THE UNITED NATIONS (UN) AND THE ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC CONFERENCE (OIC) TO INTERVENE AND MEDIATE TO END THE WAR IN MINDANAO AND INTERCEDE FOR THE JUST RESOLUTION OF THE BANGSAMORO STRUGGLE FOR THE RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION

When, at the dawn of the high-tech, ultra civilized 21st century, the Bangsamoro finds itself still bereft of its inherent rights and freedoms as a distinct sovereign nation, stolen as they were, under cover of “civilizing” democracy by successive colonizers;
When, after many decades of so-called peace negotiations, the Bangsamoro people wakes up to the harsh truth of the abominable situation of sustained betrayal, manipulation, lying, cheating, and killing by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines;
When, today, the Bangsamoro is subjected to another cruel war by a government that abdicated democratic government, declaring the Bangsamoro as its subjects for protection yet waging atrocious war against it, this time, right after the exposure of its base insincerity in consummating the previously agreed upon and approved Memorandum of Agreement on ancestral domain (MOA-AD), executed by and between the government of the republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF);
When, today, the Bangsamoro cannot find any redeeming justification for the non-existence of genocidal intent in the acts of the government of the republic of the Philippines in 1) taking side with the notorious Ilonggo land grabbers association (Ilaga) and other land usurpers, all of whom have amassed wealth in Bangsamoro territories without consent nor participation of the Bangsamoro, and some of whom also wrested control of local governance and would own the whole of Bangsamoro homeland by systematically dispossessing the Bangsamoro, and 2) unleashing disproportionately massive military forces with heavy land and air artillery for pursuing two commanders of the MILF yet indiscriminately bombing and destroying communities and villages and deliberately sowing fear and terror to the populace resulting to the displacement of thousands and thousands of innocent civilians;
When, today, the acts of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines include the incomparably contemptible authorization and distribution of 13,000 arms to civilians, many recipients of whom are
Ilaga adherents who desire above all to drive out the Moro people from their territories thereby exposing all pretensions to equal protection of its peoples by the GRP, as well as the scheme to instigate a genocidal civil war reminiscent of the dictator Marcos policy, to broad daylight;
When, today, despite the valiant resistance of Bangsamoro freedom fighters against an overwhelming war machinery and military operations of a colonial government and despite the perseverance of the great majority of the Bangsamoro to sustain and advance the struggle, the Bangsamoro civil society believes that the only remaining hope for immediate and just resolution of the conflict is in the existence of international organizations and entities sworn to maintain world peace and security by safeguarding human rights and peoples’ rights and the promotion of conflict resolution through principled, just and peaceful means;
And when, today, we, the Bangsamoro multi-sectoral members of the civil populace of Lanao resolve to adhere to the hope and trust that these humanitarian organizations, appraised of a gross crime against humanity in our region of the world will come to the aid of the victims of this unjust war, the peace-loving Bangsamoro and Filipino civil populace, alike;
With solemn prayers that this appeal finds its niche in the hearts and minds of all peace-loving citizens and organizations of the humane world, we therefore call on the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference to jointly intervene in this Mindanao conflict, to mediate for the cessation of the war and to institute the just resolution of the grievous injustices to the Bangsamoro and their right to self-determination;
We call on the United Nations to investigate and determine the true cause and extent of the war and if the principles and purposes for which the UN exists still operates, to disregard the GRP assertion of the war as an internal affair or that the current imposition of war on the Bangsamoro is legitimate and instead afford protection of all peace-loving Bangsamoro and Filipino civil populace from the scourge of unjust war and especially to uphold and protect the Bangsamoro right to self-determination as guaranteed under UN declaration and international laws.
Issued this 2nd day of October, 2008 during the multi-sectoral Bangsamoro civil populace rally for peace at the Plaza Cabili, Islamic City of Marawi.

With the Symbolic unity of the Bangsamoro, the Holy month of Ramadan ends today, September 30, 2008. The Ulama and the local government officials of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur unite each other and hold their Eidl Fitr prayer at Quizon Avenue, most popularly known as “Banggolo” for Dansalan people. This represents the historic unity of the Bangsamoro, as the Holy month ended with out peace. They believe that this will enable them more blessings as they unite for their prayer of peace and solidarity.

The first line of the observers started at the head of the old Banggolo bridged, and ended at Land bank, or the Bato Masjid. Both young and old of this City including other Muslims who intended to pray in mass come to observe the said Eidl Fitr prayer. Muslims believe that some individuals who seek for a common purpose are more blessed than a few. This encouraged them to come in group. Early at dawn, the rain pour gently giving all the plants to shower and bathe itself as the Muslims take an early bathe early in the morning. The birds hummed as they failed too take their early vocation instead they aligned themselves as they watch on the sacred affair. They knew that this crowed is harmless in nature.

The Holy month bid goodbye to all Muslims in the world, freeing them for any restrictions but leave morale to observers. It is a 29 day of total discipline including their mind and hearts. It does refined their heart and found themselves unharmed from abstaining foods and drinks. What remains is the fear of peace and order. It leaves a question of uncertainty. Are the bombshells that showers every day in their life, week before the Holy month will go on with? No one can predict, but this actually the message of their Eidl Fitr prayer. ALLAH (s.w.t.) IS MOST MERCIFUL AND KIND, we know ALLAH provided us all his protection and
mercy…AMEEN!

PRESS RELEASE
September 30, 2008
KIDAPAWAN CITY – Muslims and Christians here bestow some assistance to the people of North Cotabato province which since June, this year, were victims of new round of incessant clashes between elements of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Armed Forces of the Philippines ( AFP ) after the Government of the Republic of the Philippines ( GRP ) abandoned the Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (Moa-AD).
Dubbed ‘Duyog sa Ramadhan,’ Suara Bangsamoro and Kawagib Moro Human Rights Organization spearheaded a relief mission with the support of National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) and ACT International to evacuees of three municipalities – Aleosan, Midsayap and Pikit from September 29 to 30.
Amirah Ali Lidasan , president of Suara Bangsamoro , said, “This is just a modest respite to the protracted torment of Moro people.”
Evacuees in barangays Katinggawan, Rangaban, Baliki and Lindongan of Midsayap; Bagolibas and Pagangan of Aleosan; and Nalapaan of Pikit were the recipients of food pack composes of rice, monggo, sugar, coffee, salt and dried fish.
Meanwhile, Bai Ali Indayla , Kawagib’s spokesperson, lamented over the grim plight of people in the evacuation centers, where Muslim women and children were the most affected.
“It dismays that despite the calls of the Moro people to stop the clashes in respect for Ramadhan observance, nobody from the military ranks heeded. When will this war end when military’s detachments are beside the evacuation centers and Moro communities? This government showed no sign of respect to the most significant occasion of Muslims,” Indayla said.
The Suara Bangsamoro and Kawagib jointly call for the pull-out of detachments and military forces in Barangays Dalingaoen and Batulawan, both in Pikit and all affected areas of North Cotabato .
“If only the AFP will pull-out their troops in Moro communities, there will be no more evacuees. The desecration of lives as well as devastation of properties of Moro people is not a warranty of Commanders Amerin Ombra Kato, Bravo and Ustadz Wahid Tundok ’s surrender. Muslims in the evacuation centers have only one wish – that they could return homes and celebrate Eid’l Ftr peacefully,” Indayla said.
Ptr. Felixberto Rodinas of Promotion of Church and People’s Response in North Cotabato (PCPR-NC) said, “We contradict Muslim-Christian conflict. The Bangsamoro people had long been tortured with social injustices as well as non-Moro. That’s why we believe that through interfaith solidarity, we could achieve peace and justice.”
The groups reiterate call for AFP to stop attacking Moro communities and for the GRP to show sincerity in giving the Bangsamoro people its aspirations.
The relief mission was also supported by Cotabato Regional Ecumenical Council (COREC), Interfaith Alliance for the Advancement of Peoples Rights-North Cotabato (IFFAPR-NC) and PCPR-NC. #

The Muslim populace of Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte assailed the attacks launched yesterday by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as totally insensitive and unprincipled. In text messages to Luwaran, civilians of the Lanao Empire rebuked the relentless and indiscriminate firing of 105mm and 155mm howitzers by the AFP starting 3am until sunset in the municipality of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur and in the towns of Poonapiagapo, Pantao Ragat and Munai, Lanao del Norte.
“The heavy bombardments were unleashed by the AFP when we Muslims were partaking Suhur (allowable early morning meals before fasting starts) and the Iftar (time to partake food to break the fast starting sunset),” one text message said.
“These were wild, insensitive and unprincipled attacks by the AFP, short of telling the Muslims to eat our mortar shells,” said in the subsequent txt message.
Government soldiers also attacked yesterday the MILF freedom fighters in Panggawa and Tagoranao, Calanogas, Lanao del Sur during Iftar. Fierce gun battle ensued for hours but no report on casualty yet.
Some 21 AFP men were killed and several others wounded in an ambushed stage by the MILF freedom fighters at Bubongaranao, Calanogas last September 17, 2008.
AFP Chief General Alexander Yano said there shall be tactical adjustments on military operations that are conscious and sensitive of Muslim’s religious and cultural practices during Ramadhan.
Yano, however, said the campaign against “rogue MILF commanders Ameril Umbra Kato and Bravo will go on despite the observance of the Ramadan.”
MILF freedom fighters were recently ordered to defend themselves and the Bangsamoro people from the indiscriminate campaigns of the AFP.
Casualties on the government forces in Lanao provinces alone were estimated to around 250 soldiers since the start of police-military against the MILF last month.
Meanwhile, sermons of the religious leaders of Lanao provinces in yesterday’s Friday congregational prayer called on the Bangsamaoro to unite and wage Jihad fi sabilillah in fighting the oppressors, religious persecutors and enemies of Islam.
After the prayer, the religious folks exchanged views wherein they opined that the government might again launch massive military offensives during the Eidl Fitri (the feast that marks the end of the blessed month of Ramadhan).
It must be recalled that the government started its all-out war campaign in 2003 against the MILF and the Bangsamoro people on February 11 (2/11) at Buliok Isalmic Center while the late MILF Chairman Salamat Hashim was delivering Khutbah (Sermon) for the Eid’l Adha (the feast of pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
