Moro problem continue to persist despite government Multi-sectoral consultation approach PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ali B. Panda, Ph.D.
Tuesday, 18 November 2008
The so called “Moro problem” continue to persist, and perceived to be worsening, despite the new government multi-sectoral consultation approach under the administration of President Gloria Macapagal Aroyo.
The Government of the Republic of the Philippines have made a series of negotiations with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in order to cease the Moro problem in Mindanao. The MILF has the goal of independence but may accept political settlement leading to establish an Islamic government. The government on the other hand is enthusiastic to strengthen the sense of Filipino nationalism within the constitutional framework.
At the start of the negotiation, it is obvious that the MILF has led the GRP toward its vision. The fact, their 2001 Tripoli accord provides that ‘negotiation and peaceful resolution of the conflict must involve consultations with the Bangsamoro free of any imposition in order to provide chances of success and open new formula that permanently respond to the aspiration of the people for freedom.” The negotiated political process which should be the establishment of Bangsamoro Juridical Entity may be tough to the government to implement because the prospective result might contravene the territorial integrity of the State.
Moro struggle is a continuing cycle. Its different forms, modes and strategies have pressured the Philippine government to make “laws and policies” governing “projects and programs” for the Bangsamoro. But, such projects and programs failed to address the “Moro problem.”

Question has been raised why this problem continue to persist? This question invites diverse opinion among observers. It may be known to those who are really conscious and have sufficient knowledge on Moro history. This I think distinct from Muslim problem. It is unique. It refers to the inclusion of the Bangsamoro into the Philippine Republic, hence, without this there can be no Moro struggle against the government for genuine self-determination, a separate Bangsamoro state. Muslim problem, on the other hand, is broader enough. It refers to socio-economic, political and educational problems of the Muslims.

The quest for a separate Bangsamoro state can be achieved through armed struggle or political settlement- that means the legal constraints have to be set aside and the will of the people, the Bangsamoro in particular is a paramount consideration.

The Philippine Constitution provides the present Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao which was conceptualized and legislated in order to address the Moro problem. This autonomy, however, failed to realize the “people’s expectation.”

The first Government enhanced autonomy offer was proposed by Estrada in 2000 which the MILF utterly rejected; the second in February 2003, which the MILF did not care to look at; and the third suddenly rejected without looking at the so-called package. This government offer is an act of abandoning the consensus points on ancestral domain aspect of the Tripoli Agreement of 2001.

Obviously, the government has shifted to constitutional process in order to offer political settlement in accordance with the Constitution.. Jesus Dureza, the then Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, told members of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines that the objective of the move was to allow the creation of a Federal Bangsamoro Governance.

Constitutional experts, some of whom helped frame the 1987 Constitution was working on “fast mode” to allow for a “federal framework” that would “clear the way” for the government to “really respond to the Bangsamoro aspirations,” Dureza said. This is not among the consensus points reached by the government and MILF peace panels. The details of the Federal framework will be left to the Congress to legislate.”

Secretary Norberto Gonzales, National Security Adviser told reporters that the proposed federal state, which he acknowledged was not part of the consensus points reached by the government and the MILF, is “actually at the informal level, being mentioned (by the MILF) because when you look at the package of the MILF, they’re really looking at something like…statehood and that is not possible.. in the terms of our Constitution today. But the idea of federalism, the Bangsamoro states will be possible but of course that will call for a Constitutional amendment…” This is necessary since government cannot execute any agreement against its constitution. This scenario is manifested by the declaration of the Supreme Court the unconstitutionality of the Memorandum of Agreement between the two parties.

If government continue its initiative to amend its constitution in order to implement what was agreed upon, I think political settlement can positively move forward. to accommodate the “desired ends” of the Bangsamoro.

The Beshops, Ulama and other religious personalities are now being topped to conduct the multi-sectoral consultation approach of the government. They are urged to remain neutral. Khled Musa, Deputy chairman of the MILF committee on information, said: “We trust your integrity, knowledge, and moral ascendancy in guiding men and women for their better spiritual life on earth. But please preserve this clout, credibility and trust of the peoples in you.”

Musa clarified that the MILF wanted all sectors of society including the religious to involve themselves in real peace-making but they should stay not partisan to one party. They should support the peace process and should strengthen what the parties to the conflict have already agreed.

Musa said: “ it is futile for these religious personalities to involve themselves in the present peace policy approach of government”, saying these “dialogues and consultations” are mere tools to delay the real peace process and the government will not follow the findings and recommendations there from, because it has already that predetermined results in mind.

Musa numerated the following factors that will compromise the integrity of these religious personalities even if they have the sincere intention to help resolve the conflict in Mindanao:

1. Peace efforts that draw instructions from the government;
2. Receiving or asking money from the government;
3. Using government facilities in these undertaking;
4. Getting funding from government for their conferences especially if these are
held in Manila; and
5. Going with known government officials related to their peace agencies.

Musa questioned the government’s decision in using religious personalities in conflict resolution, saying the armed conflict in Mindanao is not about clash of religions but clearly the offshoots of “greed, hatred and mistrust” for Moros in this region.

Therefore, Moro problem is defined as the inclusion of the Bangsamoro homeland into the Philippine Republic. Since it is a political issue, it continue to persist. Political settlement by granting separate Banghsamoro nation-state is the ultimate solution. This is in line with the perceived hypothesis that “the more you educate the Moros the more they know that they are not part of the Philippine Republic.”

THE TRIUMPHANT VICTORY OF BARRAK H. OBAMA HIGHLIGHTS GOD’S POWER PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mack P. Macalanggan
Friday, 07 November 2008
The destiny of Barrak H. Obama that brought him into triumphant victory once again highlight the able power of the creator GOD that when HE desires to change, no one can prevent it even the most intelligent people of the world gathered together to prevent it cannot do something.

The victory of U.S. President elect Barrak Obama is almost predicted by the people of secular knowledge from different corners of the world as next to impossible being a black and poor boy who rose from almost nowhere, raised up by a Muslim step father in Indonesia.

This further emphasize the power of the Creator God ALLAH that one may forget as we ascend to power and wealth that all sources that keeps this world exist and moving its direction as well as other celestial bodies emanate from the power of GOD.

The sun that gives us light and other uses gets its power from GOD. The mountains that surround us, giving us many uses for living also gets its power from God. This hidden power is termed by the western thinkers as the power of nature, escaping its very root which is the power of the one and only GOD.

This is the typical thinking of the people of the book mentioned in the Holy Qur’an now scattered all over the world that when God ordained something that benefits human beings, this group of people claim that it is their own efforts that makes it happen, denying the power of GOD.

U.S. President elect Barrak Obama has of course middle name but he never mentioned in his entire campaign for a very good reason. Look the wisdom that God has given this poor and black man who is destined to change the history of the United States, who started his campaign from the word “Change”  The change has finally come.

Can other human beings in this world change for good as started by U.S. President elect Barrak H. Obama?  For instance,  the leaders of our country especially Muslim leaders who believe in God ALLAH. Can we start from very simple word “Alhamdulillah” praising God and thanking HIM for the single minute of our life.

The very neglect of remembering GOD keeps one’s heart ponderous that develops disease of hypocrisy. This hypocrisy divides human beings into different beliefs and directions. This is a phenomenon confronted by all human, regardless of their race in this 21st century.

The wisdom that keeps a man always on the right path is to remember that he will die very soon. Like the belief of the Four (4) righteous Caliph. Abubakar, Omar, Othman and Ali. The sequence of leadership of these Four righteous Caliph in matter of belief also highlight their respective wisdom in life. Once Ali said to Othman, “when I survived within 7 days, I feel that I have lived long enough in this world. Othman said to Ali, “That’s too long to live”  in my case, after surviving within 24 hours, I feel I have lived long enough. When Omar heard it. He commented Othman and said, “that’s too long for both of you. “upon waking up in the morning after sleeping the whole  night, I feel that I have lived very long in this world” When Abubakar heard it. He said, “That’s too long to live”  my breathing is exhale and inhale, the moment my breath is exhaled, I don’t expect that it will return to me. And if it returns, I feel that I have lived a very long life. This kind of belief shows a paramount faith (Iman) that cannot be shaken by evil. Therefore, they were called “the best of all nations  (Khairul Ummah) as well as the best of all generations (Khairul Quron).  I hope our generation is not the worst of all generations. Still we have time to change as President Obama did.

When Shall be the Dawn of Tomorrow PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sinab D. Cabugatan
Wednesday, 29 October 2008
One roar of Motorcycle followed by numbers of Philippine Army Trucks and Army Tanks of not less than 10 or not more than 60, mothers tried to put on pillows on the heads of their children in order for them not to account the Government Forces that passes by in our community. We were on the affected area but not in the combat zone. Hours after the roars, the bombs control our very sense of hearing. Mothers can no longer put pillows in the heads of their children. The magnitude rang like an intensity of earthquake. Birds flew away from their sanctuary as chickens quaked. The scene was true for animals used for faming. They tried to pull off roofs that controlled them into the pasture. Perhaps, they have already this lesson that suspended the lives of other animals. Numbers of them have lost their lives in the hands of the Government Army. That was why they can recognize the familiar sounds of bombs.

One of our students confessed about the misfortune of his favorite horse which used to carry him in its back until his high school days. They cannot define the quaking of their chickens when the Government Army torched on their houses and group their horses, died instantly when they were fired by the same forces. It was a surprised for them for the combat zone was in the other province and not in their province. The man that the Army is hunting into was more than 20 kilometers away from this Barangay, though the two Province are adjacent with each other. It is unbelievable for them to be affected. They want to shout and deny that they were not for he saw his cousins fired when they tried to save their horses. His mother attempted to cool him off, explaining the extreme dawn of the day and it is not fine to keep awake. At his age, he knew he need not wait for the dawn for he lost his only horse which will bring him to school. The boy burst with tears as he remembered the last day with his horse.

I recall, this student has two sets of suit in a day. He separated one for school. He used to leave this horse away from the school vicinity, fearing to be the laughing stock of other students. He will be seeing his horse again in the afternoon upon dismissal. I cannot hold myself but cried too. He asked to be exempted in the second periodical examinations for he lost all his concentrations in taking the test. I did not allow him to be exempted for it is not fair for the rest of the class. I advise him to go home early and rest. When his worries subsided, I will be waiting for him and provide the special examinations instead. With a harsh voice, he whispered that he cannot promise for his comeback for there is no dawn for tomorrow any longer. I shook his shoulder and assured him that there is always dawn in a day as there is dawn in tomorrow. For me…the dawn is the time which I bring my horse to an early pasture for I will be riding on it for school. Before he went to school, the horse must be feed, he seconded. I understand his feeling. The dawn he was referring to is the pastoral time he used with his horse. I cannot account the same sentiments as there are more of our students who confessed their experiences, anecdotes and nightmares since the war begin.

I was left alone, counting every ring of the school bell until I forget my two subject assignments in the morning. I tried to account how many more students will I missed if the war continues. We have more than two dozens of them who asked for conditional absence. They have common reasons…it is the war. Some parents came to see me and asked for the best security we can provide if ever but I decline to declare for I know I cannot. For a situation like this, the parents prevail in deciding for their children. We as mentors can just sit and wait for any students who will come for schooling. Though majority of our students still come, but I was carried by the few who failed to move toward because of the hostilities. We can assure the best security at school but we cannot guarantee to and from school. Most of them were in remote places that safety measures do not warrant. We reminded them for their uniforms and Identification Card for it distinguishes from government enemies. I know it is not enough that is why I did not promise.

The variance begun last August and we do not know when it ended. No one can predict for every time the two  forces recognize the other as enemy, there will always conflict, as the dawn for tomorrow is too long to shine for those affected by their magnitude.

The Importance of Modifying an Audience PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sinab D. Cabugatan
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Having phobia on the on going conflict between the Arm Forces of the Philippines and the Bangsamoro Army, the School principal disseminate some precautionary measures and defensive technique on how to skip the variance. After the Flag Ceremony, she brought the students into attention. The students were silence and attentive in waiting for her declaration.

Principal: The on going clashes with the Arm Forces of the Philippines and the Bangsamoro is thing about we must consider. I want you to stay in the campus. Did you see that bill board under the Marang tree?

Students: Yes Ma’am…!

Principal: What is that?

Students: Ma’am, “NO LOITERING”!

Principal: Very Good! That means, you must be inside the school campus! Are you aware of the recent inconsistency?

Students: Yes Ma’am!

Principal: Can you tell me? Any body, five points for a good answer!

Student: Ma’am, the difference between the Arm Forces of the Philippines and the Bagsamoro Army!

Principal: and then…?

Students: (in chorus) War!

Principal: Alright, since you are too young to understand, let me directs you to some security measures. Consider this flag to be your base. You sit under the shade of our National Flag, the Flag of the Philippines. If you do, INSHA= ALLAH, you will stay unharmed. Both Combatants will recognize you as Law Abiding citizen. Do not forget, “sit under the shade of the Philippine Flag. You can now report to your respective Classroom.

The principal enters to her office and prepare for her instructional materials. As she go through with her first group of students in that day, she found few who are not around. She started to check the attendance when one student raised her hand and say, “Ma’am, others are still outside!” She instructed the same to call her classmates in order for them to begin.

After a while, the student came rushing. She reported on the others refusal to enter in their classroom. The later are afraid to get in, for they are scared of soldiers. With out verifying further, the principal rushed and ordered to search every classroom to check on the presence of what the students were alarmed of soldiers. They checked every corners of the room and found nothing to be alarmed in.

The principal returned to the Flagpole and face the students calmly. With a tone of low voice, she asked the remaining students what made them stay under the sun, guarding the flying flag. One very shy student answered that, again they were afraid of soldiers. But… who told you there are? The principal ask slowly. I will be giving bonus for the first student who will provide me the best information about your fear, said the principal. The students answered almost in chorus and said…You say it just now! We must sit under the shade of the flag to remain unharmed! The poor principal scratched her head, twisting her neck for she was punished by herself. The announcement was made clear but interpreting about sitting under the shade of the Philippine Flag was too meaningful that mere High School students cannot understands for it requires number of books to define it fully.

The principal was slightly wrong when she uses meaningful lines to an audience that ranges from 12-15. She mistook the audience to be a group of Lawyers or Journalists. Perhaps the said school official was in a hurry to bring the school away from the present conflicts. That was why she was not able to evaluate her audience. The students concerned must be thankful to their school principal.

This concerned me a lot. When I am giving lectures and advise to my students, I always see to it that the words I spelled will not spoil their younger mind. I rather used words of comparisons than contrasts. Using contrast might not be visible to them. We may rotten their sense of silence and keep the opposite.

The sensitivity of the variance today requires careful approach when imparting to the young generations. They are not supposed to misunderstand the conflicts for we might be putting them at risked. They are our hope, because when everything subsided, we need their support in any form. Let us protect the young, as we mentors see the magnitude of the students to prop up in the near future. They may be are significance   to hold up our objectives as Bangsamoro.

Moro identity at the heart of conflict: Misuari PDF Print E-mail
Written by Veronica Uy I INS
Monday, 20 October 2008
MANILA: We are Filipino and Bangsamoro. This was the answer Nur Misuari, chairman of the Moro National Liberation Front, gave when asked if Moros consider themselves Filipinos.

In an exclusive interview with The Inquirer, Misuari said: “Our people would like to call themselves as Filipino and a Bangsamoro citizen. They cannot do away with their identity as a Moro or as a Bangsamoro. We are Filipinos at the same time Bangsamoro. We are Bangsamoro at the same time Filipinos. We are part of a larger nation.” “That’s how we look at ourselves. We cannot do away with our identity as Bangsamoro people even as we say we are also Filipinos,” he added.

“Officially, we are citizens of the Philippines. But if you ask our people and also many knowledgeable Filipinos, they will tell you that this country is composed of two nations, the Filipino nation and the Bangsamoro nation that was born much, much longer. We were very much ahead in this part of the world. This is the reality here,” he said.

Misuari recognized that the question of identity is at the heart of the conflict in Mindanao, and progress to the country’s poorest population is key to solving this conflict. “I think it is not useful to raise this very sensitive question. It is important we live in harmony with each other to promote peace, economic progress, and prosperity, make citizens happy, harmonious, contented, so on and so forth,” he said.

“But if we allow our people to remain in the backwater of economic and social and cultural development, with money to be concentrated in Luzon and Visayas at the expense of Mindanao when we are contributing a huge portion to budget, people should expect there will be perpetual crisis in Mindanao,” he added. Misuari called for the establishment of a more equitable system that treats everyone fairly. “That’s why we are proposing that changes should lead to the creation of an egalitarian state where there is no more discrimination, no more exploitation, that no single sector will say we are superior, more educated, etc. That should not be allowed to come to the fore because (that would) instigate some kind of reaction. Government should treat us with justice,” he said.

Is this the Equation of the War? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sinab D. Cabugatan
Monday, 29 September 2008
It was Sunday, the first day of the week (area thickly populated by Muslim, started their first day of classes at Sunday), I started the lesson on Inequality. Previously, we talk on equality. Before the formal discussions, I reminded them for the incoming second periodical Examinations which will includes Inequality. It is my practiced not too check attendance, for the evaluation test serve as the attendance. I further remind them to keep their notebook and ball pen, for I hate to see student writing while I am explaining. Except, it is so hard to feed busy mind while doing the writing and listening. As I observed them all set for the discussions, I wrote few lines on equation, related on greater than and less than. My center of discussions was for them to remember related techniques on how to distinguish the two with just a glance. The equation shows:

If x2, this means, x is lees than y greater than two.

To immediately judge which is greater and which is less simply follow the pointed edge of the sign. To be simple, the less than of this expression is pointed by this sign. Hence, quickly we can say that x and 2 are less than while y is greater. To brush off their mind, I integrated related values. Since the end point of the signs represent less than, they must avoid to point their fingers to any body when conversing. As you point your fingers, you became the greater and the later as less. As a graded recitation, I ask for any volunteer to discuss related values and application of the lesson just discussed.

One student rise up and asked, “Ma’am, the government military and the Bangsamoro are pen pointing each other, related to the conflict, which of them is greater? Before I have catch to answer the same, another student rise up and say….The government military is greater because they put a bounty for the three Bangsamoro Commanders greater than the bounty that “Commander Pusa has set for the influential politicians named as against the signing of the MOAD. The discussions became live that I have not corrected any wrong statement. On the other corner, one student debated that the Bangsamoro is greater for they offered lower than the military did. The Moro army can have the enemy they wanted for a lower amount. A thunderous voice from the right corner role; “Ma’am, but why is it that even the poor civilians without bounty was hit from this present clashes? The classroom roars as if the market is on its pick hour. I lost all the chances. Just before the other has finished his statement, one more student went to the blackboard and jot down two lines.

Civilians=n(bullets)
Community=n(bombshells)

Voice from all corners of the room rose. I lost my temper and bang my eraser in the blackboard. Why must you create an equation when we are dealing with inequality? I asked. I hear from the distant, saying…you are right Ma’am! Let me correct them all. Allow me to write this inequality.

CiviliansBangsamoro Army
Civiliansbullets
Bangsamoro Commanders>10millions or the reverse
against the MOAD< 300 thousands + 45 caliber or the reverse

Anticipating for another remark, I warned them to mark any student absent if he tried for another issue. The classroom was cool and only a breath that breaks the power of silence. I emphasize to them that the lesson has nothing to do with the present conflict. I detested and not know any mathematicians to be the lawless elements of the war. That mathematics was designed for war to create any mathematics expressions in which the ultimate victims were the entire population of an affected area. I declared to them to forget the equations and inequalities they formulated for it has nothing to do with the current lessons. Instead, they have to scan their books and follow proper illustrations, for them to solve related exercises. Otherwise, they will flank on the incoming periodical
examinations.

I fixed my instructional materials without saying goodbye. I dislike this kind of attitudes. It is premature for them to interpret anything related to the issue on war. I went outside murmuring. Ever since the war began, it has become the talk of the town, and I became numbed. I cannot attain to think that while other are feasting for the issue, more lives are wasted and every one affected are suffering. On the mid of this issue, I declined to read any headline of the newspapers. I switch off our Televisions just to abstain from the problem. I am very thankful that there is news blackout. The conflict has no more to find in any newspapers, though my ears lost control of the countless bombs in our locality. I am happy too that I can view freely during news Television program. No more lifeless viewed and livelihood aired being damaged. Perhaps, the media are tired to cover inconsistence evidence that make them to report one sided, or, may be the area is too remote, or dangerous to take. Which ever of the two, I know they have reasons why they decline.

Though my pretend prevail, but my hearts ponder for any peaceful means so that I can conditionally think of my Muslim brothers and Sister who are suffering from the variance…. will be in the state of mind. The war has acquired pages from my diary, which I cannot overlook for my generation will scan every leaves provided. I just hope, the two forces will equate themselves to a certain point, so that every body will be afforded.

An excerpt of the interview to Commander Pusa PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bangsamoro Reporter
Saturday, 20 September 2008
An Official Publication                                                                 Special Release No. 3. September 18, 2008

An excerpt of the interview to Commander Pusa, the supreme leader of the group called “DIFA’UN NAFS” which means Self-defense, by Zulfikar bin Bangsamoro, a correspondent of the Moro in Focus. The interview was conflicted in the camp of Commander Pusa somewhere in the vast jungle in Mindanao, between Bukidnon and Lanao del Sur on 13 September 2008 corresponds to13 Ramadhan 1429 .

Zulfikar: Assalamu alaikum! Brother Commander Pusa, we are so tired in the hours of walk just to visit you in your camp because our people want to know more about you since you made a public pronouncement that you will wage an ethnic and religious war against the Jerusalem Movement (NJM) of Emmanuel Pinol.

Pusa: Waalaikumisalam! Brother Zulfikar, may Allah SWT reward you with His highest heaven for your effort to meet us. We are very glad actually to talk to you so that our side of the issue will be disclosed to the public and hopefully they will sympathize with our cause.

Zulfikar: What can you say about the deteriorating peace situation in Mindanao? Do you think that their renewed violence will be prevented from its possible escalation not only in Mindanao but through out the country?

Pusa: The resumption of the conflict in Mindanao can be imputed to the sinister plan of Manny Pinol, the Supreme Commander of the New Jerusalem Movement. This group of Pinol did not want peace in Mindanao because the NJM believes that any peace formula in Mindanao is always to the disadvantage of the interest of the Christian settlers particularly the Ilonggo land grabbers who forcibly taken our lands through fraud and arms. It appears that the Arroyo Administration has no political will to finally resolve through negotiated political settlement the Mindanao problem. In this country, anti-Muslim leaders such as the likes of Pinol and Lobregat are the influential and powerful than Malacañang that is the reason why the signing of the MOA-AD was aborted. The implication of the GRP’s reneging in its commitment to the peace process is that the government wants to prolong war in Mindanao. If their conflict will not be averted, this will spill over not only in Mindanao region but the entire country will be affected.

Zulfikar: Is your group a branch or splinter group of MILF or MNLF or Abu Sayyaf?

Pusa: No, we are a separate group, we are not affiliated to the existing Moro liberation movement. But we are sympathizers of our brother Mujahideen in the MILF, MNLF and Abu Sayyaf. Our cause is the same and we have common enemies- the military and the NJM and other Christian vigilante groups.

Zulfikar: People say that your nom Daguerre PUSA is actually the acronym of your group which is called Patriotic Union and Salvation Army (PUSA)? Is that correct?

Pusa: That is not correct. I coined my alias Pusa when I fought against the ILAGA which means “rats”, I was the Pusa (cat), their adversary who pursued them (rats) to punish them for their atrocities and inhuman acts they had committed against the Muslims. I joined those who fought ILAGA group, I was too young at that time and by the help of Allah SWT, I was able to defend our people against Christian fanatical warriors. I had killed many of the ILAGA warrior with my own bare hands, hehe.. (chuckles). Going back to your question actually the name of our group is “Difa’un Nafs” (Self-defense). Members of this group are my former commander and also we will recruit new fighters! We believe that the war between the MILF and government is not political but religious war. We will help MILF in this fight, because this is not only the war of MILF but it is a Bangsamoro-Filipino war. If our brother Muslims believes that they are Filipinos because of their personal interest and perches they have enjoyed in the government. We will treat them as enemies and traitors to the cause of the Bangsamoro and Islam.

Zulfikar: What is the role of your group in this war between MILF and government forces?

Pusa: Our role is to help the MILF freedom fighters with all the means available in our group. We are prepared to die in this war as martyrs rather than seeing our people suffering from the oppressive of the Ilonggo colon and the military. The MILF forces must face the government troops in the battle field. Our group will fight the government paramilitary groups and NJM spiritual warriors. We are determined to pier down Ilonggo leaders who are members of the NJM like Mar Roxas, Drilon, Raul Gonzales, Mike Arroyo, Lobregat and Pinol brothers! We will give reward with an amount of P300,000.00 and .45 caliber for any one who can kill any of the mentioned Ilonggo leaders. These Ilonggo leaders are real enemies of peace and of the Bangsamoro. We cannot attain freedom and peace in Mindanao unless these Ilonggo leaders of NJM and National leaders such as the likes of Biazon, Lacson, Puno etc. are killed.

Zulfikar: okay, thanks for giving a time to talk to you. What is your parting statement? Will you speak to us your message to our people and the Filipino people?

Pusa: I am calling our people to join in this war for liberation of the Bangsamoro from the tyrannical rule of the Philippine government. The non-signing of MOA-AD is an indication that the government wants war in Mindanao. The arming of the Christian civilians will only mean that the government wants ethnic cleansing in Mindanao. I am appealing to the conscience of the Bangsamoro people and the Bangsamoro leaders to support the MILF liberation war against government forces. We must consolidate our ranks and unite our people in our forward march toward freedom and independence. We must redeem ourselves from the pangs of the oppression of this colonial government the only options left for us is in the VICTORY or MARTYRDOM. Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!

Ramadan-Al Kareem (Quote on a Daughter’s Diary) PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sinab D. Cabugatan
Tuesday, 16 September 2008
Being refined with the reminders and reading about a love for mother, the Ramadan-Al Kareem breaks the silence of each and every Muslim who lightly put parents to the queuing lines of their priorities. As this diary was scan inside a daughter’s diary, the writer expects to cling this to the
heart of every Muslim who lost their parents before and in this Holy month.

The Quest of Sobbing Daughter

Daughter: Oh mother dear, can you see me?

Mother: Of course I can, the most beautiful daughter, I am hugging tightly
and clinging doubted on to my shoulders…

Daughter: Yes I know, but not any more. I feel like protected by the
Great wall of China! And I love you for that.

Mother: But I failed to remember when was my last hugged? Is that huge
blanket I used to be yours every night clean?

Daughter: (Silence won her mode and kept on nodding and crying, recalling
when was her last hug too). Do you still remember that stuff?

Mother: You must be using that for your girl too…

Daughter: Can you hear me now, mother?

Mother: It’s you that has a cry of increasing tone that cause me to panic.
My knees have many times banged on the stairs…

Daughter: (Sobbing loudly as the world closes to her. She thought of times
her knees were bit into the door when her mother cried for water). Look
mother! I brought to you a very nice dress. You should be using this for
this Holy month.

Mother: I have more of that in the cabinet. Go come and have them or you
may have them for those who need best dresses in this Holy month, but keep
the nice one. I always buy you a nice dress.

Daughter: But you must wear this one, so you can see and hear me. I even
cook delicious foods for you.
Mother: I have plenty of foods. Take your meal while the soup is hot. I
cook your favorite delicacy. Have find any in the table?

Daughter: (She cannot longer hold her feeling and cried out loud. The
people around were sobbing, for they cannot think of other way. She was
reminded of all cares that her mother have before. She asked herself of
the time she cooked delectable meal for her mother. Having no record of
any, she screamed). I will be cooking your favorites from time on, but
please open your eyes and see who these people around. They are all eager
to have the best food for you.

Mother: (With a mysterious grin, and wipe her face to change her position.
She left-up her left hand and turn to the right.)

Daughter: (Anticipating for an end, she held the hand so tightly and
grabbed to catch the last breath. She kissed her as her mother threw her
meaningful smile. Her hand felt down and the daughter was brought outside
unconscious)

Such is the scene of mother in the dying bed. We like to show all our comfort, our care, love and concern but faded as the memory of one failed. A person in the dying bed became pain- least, the world seems flat that cannot hear your whisper, the beat of your heart, the deepness of cry, the sense of hug, the loudness of scream and the sobs you inclined. If you are lucky to have any mother or a father, now is the time for all those. Find them the most delicious foods in the world you can afford. They need it now, more than ever. Share them your success, they long for it. Show them your fabulous smile, they treasure it. Your parents are the persons who love to listens the story of wonder and the joys you have ever.
HAVE YOU VISITED HER………………

The Smoke of War Extend Beyond My Book PDF Print E-mail
Written by Sinab D. Cabugatan
Saturday, 13 September 2008

It was Monday morning, 25th day of August which my early vocation of the day has been set. Since my day in teaching, I always see to it that my schedule will be in the morning. I dislikes the afternoon session for I refuse to see the eyes of students with mixed feeling of going home and the point which their interest started to exhaust. I prepare two lessons that day.  I provided one for my Elementary Algebra, another for Geometry while I scheduled my Advance Algebra for an evaluation test. Our lesson in Elementary Algebra requires a review on “Addition of like and Unlike Signs”. Adding like signs will always give positive result, regardless of its signs. Positive and a positive resulted to positive, likewise negative and a negative signs still provide a positive answer. As for the Geometry, I have a review on adjacent angles to integrate it to the introduction of quadrilaterals. I made it clear to the student that any adjacent angles is always a supplementary angles, hence, regardless of its degrees the two angles share a to a total of 180 degrees.

I pack-up my bag after a glass of coffee’ with milk and a pair of slice bread, I rushed to our old-wheels that shuttle to our Barrio High National High School. I was expecting to be a bit earlier than my students, but I was wrong. When I enter in the classroom, I found them all set to take the early lessons. I wrote on the blackboard the rules on “addition of like and unlike sign”. I situated my writing on the rear side of the blackboard to give more space for illustrations and discussions. I limit my illustrations into four, since adding like signs required examples on adding negative and a negative equals positive and adding positive equals positive too, while unlike signs need examples on adding negative and a positive  equals negative, another on addition of positive and a negative equals to negative also. To make this clear let us observe these mathematical presentations;

Addition of like signs:

1.) -(-)=+

2.) +(+)=+

Addition of Unlike signs:

1.)  –(+)=-

2.)  +(-)=-

I started my discussions as clear as my writings. I tried to convince them that any opposing idea will never gives positive result, like the addition of unlike signs. “YES MA’AM!”  They chanted in chorus as if my ears drop its drums. ” VERY GOOD!” I seconded. Then how about the like signs, I asked. One student was so very shy and said… Ma’am, you said before that a negative number is not a counting numbers for they are not natural numbers, how are the two negative numbers become positive? I paused for a while and think on the question. It is a very smart question that I cannot think for an immediate answer. In the first place I plan to give it as an assignment to give ways for my advance research. But I am too shy to play this as an alibi. Alas! I have a clue! I invite their attention and listen for awhile for were almost done with our discussions. I started to explain and walk from the right corner of the blackboard and pause when I arrive on the rear end. Class, negative numbers are extension of natural numbers, I exaggerate! But another smart student debated me that these negative numbers can be used in scaling that goes below zero such as temperature. If the temperature is below zero, that person is dead, and how should two death became positive.  It is another intellectual question but I have enough to answer it. The answer is simple, I uttered, death is natural, which prove that negative is an extension of natural numbers. A student on the left corner who did not understand the flow of the discussions said, Ma’am! There is many natural numbers in Udalo!  (the war zone since August 24, between Piagapo Lanao del Sur and Munai Lanao del Norte) I became damned and cannot remember my last tone. I closed my class record and announce the early break time. I advise them to come back on time, because the next teacher will keep waiting.

I mingled with my fellow teachers who were busy discussing with the number of casualties in the same place. Classes in all level, both high school and elementary has been suspended. We were the only school who handle their regular classes. We cannot suspend the classes for the “National College Admission examination will be given on the 27th of the same month. We have only two days to wait, except, we will be handling review on the said Examination to the Senior Students who will take on the said date. Although the smoke of the war extends beyond our books, but the welfare of the students will be much affected. We cannot decide otherwise. I confessed my new anecdote in my freshman students, but they supported the jokes and agreed that there are really many natural numbers in the said place, meaning many died in the combat zone.

I pick-up my lesson plan for Geometry and exit to forget the issue. Right after a few touched on the past lessons, I drew a line intersected by another line and asked the students what does this line means. One student answered loudly and said it forms two angles and the same are adjacent angles. That is correct! I cheered! Can you explain further? As I point on another student. Then the student answered…Ma’am, an adjacent angles are supplementary angles! Well done! I clap my hands. Can you give a particular example?  Like a supplementary angles that we are discussing now! Another student volunteered. Ma’am! She proudly ushered, Udalo and Radapan are adjacent barangay,Therefore, they are supplementary angles equals to 180 degrees. The Barangay Udalo evacuated and so did Radapan, they shared 180 degrees of the war, she added. The line of the Arm Forces of the Philippines intersected the line of the Bangsamoro Army, forming two angles so that the two adjacent Barangay unequally acquired the degrees of the war. Thus, the degrees affect the two and make the people to evacuate. Oh! Dear ALLAH! My two lessons never give morale to keep for these scared students. Their minds were filled with the smoke of the war! I have no comment to share but I instead shed tears and went out side of the room.

Before the morning session ended, series of bang! Another bang!  Another bang again! My students were nowhere to find! They run as fast as they can, and I did not tend to catch them I cannot make it! I enter in the faculty Room and cried so loud that I did not notice the other faculties who cried in chorus. The powerful weapon was just two kilometers away from our school. The machine gun was operated in the Hail side of the nearest University. The smoke and the sounds hurt our ears. We don’t know where to find a safest place. The gun seems to bang our head, tough it was not. Fear accommodates our heart. We don’t know whom to save, although the victim was unknown. We were certain there were some, but we don’t know who they are. Fear, confusions and a mixed feeling of anger, but we don’t know whose to blame.

The following day, I report for office work to check my students. Who were safe and who may not. Thanks to the mercy of ALLAH! They were all clearly safe but only some report for school and the few never show-up until this writing is made. I cannot afford to think such harmony in school which turned out to be horror. I cannot open my book for it entails a memory of the past. The memories that keeps my heart to hold all the hands of my students, but I was not able to reach them. They scattered in every corner of the school to secure themselves. Finally, they went home with out taking my warnings. Such is the pictures of scared students.

We are the students and teachers in this Combat Zone. We carried in our books but the smoke of the war extended beyond! Can we have a chance to interpret other expressions and terms other than the smoke of the war? How will our lives as students and educators move without been pricked by its thorn…

YA ALLAH! SAVE OUR MISSION IN LIFE. WE ARE YOUR SERVANTS WHO SAT UNDER YOUR MERCY! Please hear us YA ALLAH!......... AMEEN!

The New Jerusalem Movement? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Moro in Focus
Tuesday, 02 September 2008

The NEW JERUSALEM MOVEMENT (NJM) is a group organized by North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel  “Manny” Pinol. Pinol is the Supreme Commander of this group. The NJM, otherwise known as Reform the ILAGA Movement, is a revival of the Christian Fanatical Group in the 60’s such as ILAGA (Ilonggo Land Grabbing Association), The Muslim FREE Mindanao, TADTAD, The Crusade of the children of GOD, the Shepherds, and other Christian vigilante groups who are committing ethnic cleansing against the Muslims in Mindanao.

The Vatican supported NJM and gave financial support for the training of NJM spiritual army. In return, the NJM’s fanatical fighters promised the Holy See that in sooner time Mindanao will be a Land of Fulfillment and not merely a Land of Promise for the Christians settlers. In retrospect, Pope Paul financed the ILAGA Movement in the 1960’s. Raul Manglapus, the founding father of the National Union of Christian Democrats (NUCD) had attended a meeting in Vatican. The meeting tackled about the Church dream of Christianization of Mindanao and Sulu islands and the physical extermination of the Muslim Bangsamoros. Manglapus was tasked to oversee the implementation of the Vatican sinister plan against the Muslims in Mindanao. The Vatican spent billions in its crusade against the Bangsamoros.

Majority of the leaders and members of NJM are Ilonggo National leaders like Mar Roxas III and Franklin Drillon who are their declared honorary supreme Leaders. Miriam Defensor Santiago was also recruited to join NJM. Ilonggo military officials are also recruited and they are tasked for the combat training and for the supply of weapons and ammunitions to the NJM’s spiritual army. Manny Pinol recruited the former ILAGA members who are now staying in Panay and Negros. The Ilonggo recruits are now massively transported to Mindanao under the direction of Pinol. Some of the notorious and cannibalic leaders of the ILAGA are Commander Striker and Commander Manero alias Bokay; they tell their people that they have to eat flesh    of Muslims again if war breaks out between the Muslims and Christians in Mindanao.

Parts of NJM clandestine plans are to oppose the political package for the resolution of the Mindanao conflict that will be agreed upon in the negotiation between the GRP and MILF with the facilitation of the Malaysian Government. Moreover, Mar Roxas, in his bid for presidency, assured the NJM that he will not deal with the Muslim secessionist group and he will opt for the military solution to the Mindanao problem, if elected President of the Republic of the Philippines in 2010 national election. Roxas told the NJM that he will declare all-out war against the Muslim separatist movement the moment he assumes the office of the highest position of the land.

The Ilonggo migrants to Mindanao see Mindanao as their New Jerusalem in the South East Asia. They believe that they are destined by God to colonize Mindanao and free it from the Muslims and indigenous people. In related story, Commander Pusa (Cat), an old timer Moro warrior, vows to fight the Ilonggos if they dare to enter in Muslims areas. Pusa recounted he was able to push outward the ILAGAs who are attacking Muslim villages during the height of Muslim-ILAGA conflict. He will wage racial and religious war against the NJM of Pinol. He is determined to pursue the NJM militiamen and to finish off the ILAGA barbaric forces that are doing atrocious acts against the Moro people.

MANILA, Philippines -- Threats by members of the resurgent “Ilaga” (literally rats in Visayan) vigilante group to kill 10 Moro Islamic Liberation Front fighters for every civilian killed by the rebels are not a violation of the law, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez said Thursday.

"These are nothing but threats and we cannot hold them criminally liable for making these statements," Gonzalez said

The vigilantes will incur criminal liability only when they make good on their threat, he said.

Gonzalez also said the law does not prohibit the formation of groups so long as these do not sow terror and violence.

The Ilagas earned notoriety in the early 1970s for their savagery in the government campaign against the Moro National Liberation Front.

Justice Undersecretary Ricardo Blancaflor agreed with Gonzalez but stressed that civilians cannot take the law into their own hands.

"They should let the law take its own course," Blancaflor said.
